I agree that it should go into 1.3.0, but please don't merge it yet.
The last time I looked at this branch (Sep 27), it was not yet
completely functional, and you made no announcement of progress since
then (and I was too busy with other projects to track this progress
myself). So, I would like some time to have a look and evaluate the
state of the art as it it stands now.
