Re: TO BUG #725

Dear Bob,

the source tarballs are not updated. Pretty soon (as in really pretty
soon, I'd guess next week), there will be a new version 1.2.1 which
includes quite a large number of fixes (in particular for Windows) but
is otherwise fully compatible and conservative. A current snapshot is
already available on ftp.mozart-oz.org, and I believe that the src
tarball is already the final one.

As to the C++ compiler on Windows: You need to have a full Cygwin
environment. This environment includes the appropriate versioned gcc.
Microsoft VC++ will _not_ work right now: it miscompiles some template
code in Mozart (so a VC bug). I know how to hack-around it but gave it
low priority as VC++ is a bad match for Mozart anyway. That it is a bad
match has to do with the fact that the core loop of the abstract machine
(think of some thousand lines of code here) which greatly influences
Mozart's speed takes big advantage of features only available in gcc
(first-class labels).

I don't know about Borland's bcc though.
