Yes, libraries and tools have moved on since that code was released.
New versions were published. We have updated our code base to track
these moving targets:
Could you get the code from CVS from branch mozart-1-2-0-gcc-3-2 and
try again. If something doesn't work, I need a full transcript of
configure and make. Do NOT override env vars on your command line
after configure.
Everything should JUST work. If it doesn't, it's a bug (unless you
have ancient software, in which case it's _your_ bug :-)

Well, that's a new one for me. But I won't try to make guesses until
I see a transcript.
The error that you report concerns the use of a GNU Make specific
extension: target-specific variable assignments. If you are using GNU
Make, this should not happen (unless somehow the use of GNU extensions
has been disabled - who knows how).
